Much of the usual rumour and counter rumour is masked on Saturday by the build up to the FA Cup final – but we know it will be back with a vengence on Sunday!
Top of the bill today is little Micky Owen. He’s got 31 more days left of his hefty £120,000-a-week deal at Newcastle but he’s going to be on the dole come July 1… but not for long.
Everton boss David Moyes has been linked with the former England international for some time – and now it seems, according to the Daily Mail, he will head there on a free. We’re not surprised, though, as rumour has it Louis Saha is looking for a new friend. Mikel and Phil will be along shortly.
Still at Newcastle, and Mike Ashley’s hopes of bridging the huge financial gap which awaits could be hit by groin surgery for striker Obafemi Martins, subject of a £7.5m sniffer from Fiorentina. It’s in the Daily Star.
The battle to land Franck Ribery appears to be hotting up, with the Daily Mail believing that Real Madrid are at the front of the queue ahead of Chelsea and Barcelona. However, Madrid have been told £40m is not enough to land Monsieur Ribery.
Pretty much every paper goes with Chelsea’s seemingly imminent purchase of Russia star Yuri Zhirkov for £18.6m. The Sun claims to have had this story for month so we’ll send you over there. Apparently a four year deal has already been signed with the CSKA Moscow star.
A couple of interesting stories regarding Ginger Ninja Paul Scholes. In an “exclusive” by the Daily Mail, it’s claimed he is wanted by Stoke boss Tony Pulis. He wants to shake-up his backroom staff and wants Scholes to be part of his new team as a player-coach. The Sun claims he is wanted by Bolton too.

Could West Ham’s dream team be about to split up after less than a year together? Steve Clarke and Gianfranco Zola have been taken into the hearts of the ‘Ammers faithful. But the Daily Mail says Clarkey is being targeted by Celtic as their new boss.
Still with West Ham, and it seems highly-rated goalkeeper Robert Green fancies playing for a big club. The Daily Star reports that he’s turned down a new contract and could now be heading for Tottenham.
In the same paper, Spurs’ interest in Stewart Downing could hit the skids as Middlesbrough chairman Steve Gibson is still angry about their conduct during the January transfer window.
More managerial news and it’s onto Sir Alex’s son, Darren, who is in demand after back-to-back promotions with Peterborough United. He’s wanted as Steve Coppell’s replacement at Reading, but the Daily Mail claims Daz is furious that Posh want £1m for his services.
And what of Portsmouth? Their takeover is in full swing with Sven, hand on chin, waiting in the wings. But what of Paul Hart? He who kept them up? The Daily Mail says he already has a deal on the table and could be in for compo. We don’t think it would hurt Dr Sulaiman Al Fahim that much.
